New York Immigration Coalition reports increased ICE operations

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) has reported an increase in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations across several New York City neighborhoods in recent weeks. Targeted areas include Dominican enclaves such as Inwood and Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan, as well as Brooklyn neighborhoods including Sunset Park, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, and Cypress Hills. In Queens, activity has been noted in Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, College Point, and Corona.

This surge follows previous warnings from White House border official Tom Homan regarding increased ICE presence in New York as part of federal immigration control measures. Local elected officials, including Council Member Carmen De La Rosa and Assemblywoman Jessica González-Rojas, have voiced opposition to the heightened enforcement. Additionally, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has been visiting Southeast Queens to advise residents on their rights regarding immigration laws and temporary protection status.
