New York Islanders defeat Chicago Blackhawks 4-1

The New York Islanders defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 at UBS Arena, bringing their early-season record to 2-2. Bo Horvat led the Islanders with two goals, including a power-play goal and an empty-netter.

Following a season-ending injury to Alex Romanov, the Islanders implemented defensive adjustments. Logan Stanley and Matthew Schaefer paired on defense, while Scott Mayfield and Tony DeAngelo also saw increased roles. Coach Pete DeBoer praised the defensive effort, noting strong performances from Mayfield, DeAngelo, and Ryan Pulock.

Goaltender Ilya Sorokin secured his second win of the season behind the defensive structure. The game included several disciplinary incidents, including a match penalty for Chicago’s Frank Nazar following a hit on Horvat, and subsequent roughing penalties involving Wyatt Kaiser and Anthony Duclair.
