New York Islanders fan jersey competition Matias Maccelli signing NHL third jersey power‑play improvement

The New York Islanders closed the entry window for its 2027‑28 third‑jersey design competition, receiving 80,490 fan submissions. The league‑first contest was expanded from five to eight finalist designs, which will be voted on by fans in August. The winning design will earn a team‑signed jersey and tickets for the debut game.

Separately, the Islanders announced a one‑year contract for forward Matias Maccelli, a former 2019 first‑round pick who posted 57 points over the past two seasons. General manager Mathieu Darche said Maccelli could slot into the top‑six wing and bolster the power‑play unit, which ranked 30th in the NHL last season. The club also added goalie Vitek Vanecek as insurance behind starter Ilya Sorokin.
