New York Islanders eye playoff contention under Pete DeBoer

Key players expected to return include Kyle Palmieri, Alexander Romanov, Pierre Engvall, and veteran goaltender Semyon Varlamov. Darche reported that Romanov has been back for three weeks and that Engvall is expected to be ready to play following previous hip and ankle surgeries.

The team is also adjusting to a new leadership structure under head coach Pete DeBoer, who replaced Patrick Roy late in the previous campaign. Islanders star Mathew Barzal stated he is looking forward to learning from DeBoer, citing the coach’s accomplished pedigree and track record.
