New York Islanders narrow fan-designed jersey contest to two finalists
The New York Islanders have narrowed down their first-of-its-kind fan-designed third jersey contest to two finalists. Following a massive turnout of over 80,000 submissions, a bracket-style voting process has left a lighthouse-themed navy design and a navy jersey with “ISLANDERS” spelled across the chest as the top contenders for the 2027-28 season.
In the semifinals, the lighthouse design defeated a jersey featuring the team’s controversial 1990s fisherman logo with approximately 68.7% of the vote. In the other bracket, the “ISLANDERS” text design narrowly edged out a navy “NY” logo design.
Player Mathew Barzal expressed a preference for the “ISLANDERS” spelled-out design, noting its “Winter Classic, third-jersey energy.” Final voting is scheduled to open Tuesday at noon and conclude Thursday at 5 p.m. The creator of the winning design will receive a team-signed jersey and tickets to the game where the uniform makes its on-ice debut.
