New York Islanders reach agreement to sell 15% stake at $3 billion valuation
The New York Islanders have reportedly reached an agreement to sell approximately 15% of the franchise to a group of investors, based on a $3 billion valuation. According to reports from Sportico, one of the unnamed investors is expected to acquire up to a 10% stake in the team.
The transaction remains subject to approval by the NHL. While the specific identities of the new investors have not been officially confirmed, the move follows a recent announcement that David Shuman, founder of Lateralus Holdings, had agreed to acquire a minority stake as a sixth investor.
Despite the influx of new capital, the team's day-to-day operations will not change, and Scott Malkin will remain the controlling owner. The $3 billion valuation represents a significant increase from the team's $2.1 billion valuation cited in Forbes' 2025 NHL rankings. This growth follows the 2021 opening of UBS Arena and the rising commercial value of the franchise.
