New York Islanders unveil lighthouse jersey and highlight prospect Danny Nelson
The New York Islanders have announced a new third jersey design featuring a lighthouse, a symbol that carries historical weight for the franchise. The design follows a fan vote involving over 80,000 submissions. The lighthouse imagery serves as a nod to the defunct Lighthouse Project, a $3.8 billion development proposal championed by former owner Charles Wang that aimed to transform the area surrounding the Nassau Coliseum.
On the roster front, Islanders prospect Danny Nelson has been highlighted as a significant talent following a re-draft analysis by The Athletic. Nelson, a 6-foot-3 center from Notre Dame selected 49th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, saw a 31-spot jump in rankings, moving to 18th overall in the re-draft. Last season, Nelson recorded 29 points in 36 games, establishing himself as a reliable two-way player with strong faceoff capabilities.
