New York Jets finalize 53-man roster and make trade moves
The New York Jets have finalized their initial 53-man roster following the NFL's mandatory cutdown deadline. The team released or waived 32 players, including quarterback Bailey Zappe and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. To address depth concerns on the offensive line, General Manager Darren Mougey acquired center/guard Jordan Meredith from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2029 seventh-round pick.
Several players were placed on injured reserve, including sixth-round guard Anez Cooper and seventh-round safety VJ Payne, both of whom have return designations. The Jets also secured kicker Blake Grupe and linebacker Trevin Wallace via waivers, while losing quarterback Brady Cook to the Miami Dolphins.
As the team transitions to the practice squad phase, they have already made several additions. These include undrafted running back Al-Jay Henderson and linebacker Troy Reeder. The practice squad can consist of 16 players, with an additional spot available for an international player exemption.
