New York Jets safety competition intensifies between Belton and Cisco

The New York Jets are currently evaluating two primary position battles as preseason concludes: the starting safety position alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick and the team's kicking job.

In the safety competition, Dane Belton and Andre Cisco are vying for the spot next to Fitzpatrick. Belton, a former Giant, has emerged as a playmaker throughout training camp and demonstrated strength on special teams. Cisco, a former starter for the Jets last season, recorded an interception during Friday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Cisco had an advantage entering camp, Belton’s recent performance suggests he may have taken a lead in the race.

Coach Aaron Glenn noted that the competition has been ongoing from the start, stating, “It's always good when you have those guys fighting it out... because we have to make tough decisions.”

Regarding the kicking position, the battle is between Jason Sanders and Cade York. Sanders has been 4-for-4 on field goals and extra points this preseason, while York is 3-for-4 after missing a 59-yard attempt on Friday. The Jets are expected to finalize these decisions ahead of the 53-man roster deadline next Sunday.
