New York Jets utilize rare five-tight end formation

During the New York Jets’ 23-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans, offensive coordinator Frank Reich utilized a rare “05 personnel” package featuring five tight ends on the field simultaneously. The formation included Kenyon Sadiq, Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods, and Andrew Beck.

Quarterback Geno Smith noted that in his 14-season career, he had never played in a formation with five tight ends at once. While Beck is officially listed as a fullback, Reich clarified that he participates exclusively in tight end meetings. According to Reich, team analytics indicated that no evidence of such a personnel grouping had been found in the NFL for at least 20 years. The strategy proved effective, contributing to a 7-yard run by Smith during the play.
