New York Knicks attribute 2026 title to hiring Mike Brown

Knicks president Leon Rose explained the decision on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s “Roommates Show” podcast, saying, “It was tough. Thibs is a great coach… we just needed a change in voice, a change in philosophy.” Rose added that Brown’s collaborative, open‑minded style fit the organization’s new direction and helped the roster adjust throughout the season, ultimately leading to the title run.

The coaching change, along with mid‑season acquisitions such as Jose Alvarado, was highlighted as a key factor in the Knicks’ playoff surge and eventual championship victory.
