The New York Knicks ended a 53‑year championship drought by winning the 2026 NBA Finals. The city staged its first ticker‑tape parade for the team, marching from Battery Park up Broadway’s “Canyon of Heroes” to City Hall on June 18. More than 10,000 NYPD officers, K‑9 units, heavy‑weapon teams and drone support were deployed—the largest police operation in the department’s history—to screen spectators, ban bags and manage traffic.

Crowds of thousands filled viewing pens hours before the 10 a.m. start, though many late arrivals were turned away. The celebration saw several notable moments: police briefly stopped reserve guard Tyler Kolek, mistaking him for a fan; fans climbed on police cars and sanitation trucks; and celebrities such as Alicia Keys performed the closing act. Mayor Zohran Mamdani presented the Knicks with the keys to the city, and the team accepted an invitation to visit the White House with President Donald Trump.

The parade, the first in New York’s history for a Knicks championship, combined sports triumph with extensive security measures and citywide cultural festivities.
