New York Knicks championship sparks riots, 63 arrested

Celebrations of the New York Knicks' first NBA title in 53 years erupted into violent unrest on Manhattan streets. Police reported that crowds around Madison Square Garden and Times Square threw glass bottles, damaged police vehicles and school buses, and set several buses ablaze. A 17‑year‑old was shot in the foot during a shooting near 43rd Street and Broadway, and dozens of officers were injured.

The New York Police Department arrested 63 individuals on charges including assault on officers, weapons possession and property destruction. Injuries included a teenage boy with cutting wounds and ten police officers. The city announced an official victory parade for Thursday, with the team receiving symbolic keys to the city.

One bus driver was heard shouting, “It's coming out of my paycheck…”, as he tried to protect his vehicle from the crowd.
