New York Knicks eye veteran Alex Len to bolster depleted center ranks
The New York Knicks are evaluating veteran center Alex Len as a possible depth option after he terminated his contract with Real Madrid. Len, 33, was a first‑round pick in 2013 and has appeared in 690 regular‑season games, averaging 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds over a 12‑year NBA career with several teams. In his most recent European stint he posted modest numbers, and his NBA last season was limited to 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9 minutes per game.
The team currently has only two active centers following the departures of Mitchell Robinson and Ariel Hukporti, prompting the front office to explore both Len and younger options such as Nick Richards. Knicks coach Mike Brown previously coached Len in Sacramento, adding familiarity to the potential roster move.
If Len does not sign, the Knicks may still pursue a trade or a minimum‑value contract for Richards to provide additional interior size during the upcoming season.
