New York Knicks' NBA Victory Honors German Player Ariel Hukporti with Street Sign

The New York Knicks captured their first NBA championship in 53 years, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in a five‑game series. To celebrate, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a four‑week tribute in Manhattan, installing temporary street signs that display each player's jersey number at intersections of Sixth and Seventh Avenue. German forward Ariel Hukporti, the Knicks’ number 55, received a sign at Seventh Avenue and West 55 Street, making him the third German NBA champion after Dirk Nowitzki and Isaiah Hartenstein. The mayor said, “As long as we live, every New Yorker will remember the joy and unity of our city, not because of tragedy or crisis, but because of happiness.” Fellow player Jalen Brunson was similarly honored with a sign for his number 11.
