New York Knicks pursue new center after Mitchell Robinson signs with Celtics
The New York Knicks are actively seeking a replacement for front‑court veteran Mitchell Robinson, who left the team to sign a three‑year, $47.4 million contract with the Boston Celtics. Knicks officials reportedly made repeated attempts to acquire New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi, but the Pelicans declined, citing Missi as a vital core piece. Missi, a 22‑year‑old, averaged 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last season and shot 54.4 % from the floor.
At the same time, rumors indicate the Knicks are monitoring veteran big man Jonas Valanciunas. Valanciunas remains under contract with the Denver Nuggets, who must decide by next Wednesday whether to guarantee the remaining $8 million of his deal. The Los Angeles Lakers have also been linked to Valanciunas as they search for a backup center behind newly acquired Walker Kessler, meaning New York could have competition if Valanciunas reaches free agency.
