New York launches $60 million quantum technology hub competition
New York has launched a $60 million competition to establish up to four regional Quantum Technology Commercialization Hubs. The initiative aims to transform quantum research into commercial products, startups, and high-tech jobs by connecting universities, researchers, and businesses.
Each selected hub is expected to receive approximately $15 million, though the state reserves the right to adjust amounts based on proposal strength and financial need. These centers are intended to be more than just laboratories; they must provide physical facilities with specialized equipment, support prototype development, facilitate pilot projects, and operate incubation programs for quantum-focused startups.
The program will be administered by Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR). Applications are due by October 14, and only one hub may be selected per Regional Economic Development Council region. Prospective nonprofit applicants must request materials by August 18.
