New York launches tourism campaign to attract Canadian travelers
New York State has launched the ‘NY Loves Canada’ tourism campaign to combat a significant decline in visitors from its largest international market. Data from 2025 indicates that Canadian visitation to the state fell by 26%, while spending by Canadian travelers decreased by 28%.
Governor Kathy Hochul described Canada as a ‘strategic and vital ally’ and noted that local businesses and border communities rely heavily on cross-border traffic. The initiative, promoted through the ‘I Love NY’ website, offers special discounts on lodging, dining, and attractions across various regions, including the Adirondacks, Niagara Falls, the Thousand Islands, and New York City.
The promotional deals are primarily focused on late summer and early fall, specifically August and September, with some offers extending through December 2026. The campaign aims to mitigate the impact of unfavorable exchange rates and recent geopolitical tensions that have influenced travel patterns.
