New York leads Global Financial Centres Index 40

The 40th edition of the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 40), published on September 16, 2026, evaluates the competitiveness of 117 financial centres worldwide. Produced by the China Development Institute and Z/Yen Partners, the index utilizes 144 instrumental factors from organizations such as the World Bank, OECD, and the United Nations.

New York holds the top position in the index, followed by London in second and Hong Kong in third. Singapore follows in fourth. Notable climbers include Shanghai, which rose to fifth, and Tokyo, which moved up four places to sixth. The top 10 is completed by Seoul, Shenzhen, Dubai, and Zurich.

In the Asia/Pacific region, six centres appear in the global top 10. The region saw an average rating increase of 1.48% compared to the previous report. In North America, New York is the sole representative in the top 10, though several other US cities, including San Francisco and Los Angeles, feature in the top 20.
