New York Mets address Bo Bichette contract and infield plans

New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has not yet entered contract discussions with Bo Bichette regarding the 2025 season. Bichette, who signed a three-year, $126 million deal last offseason, possesses an opt-out clause that he could exercise this winter.

Despite an inconsistent start to his tenure in New York, Bichette has shown improvement since June, hitting .299 with an .802 OPS during that period. While he has transitioned to third base, his statistical performance and clubhouse presence remain key factors for the team's future. Analysts suggest an opt-out is unlikely given the $42 million guaranteed for next season.

Regarding the Mets' infield, Stearns confirmed that Francisco Lindor will remain the everyday shortstop for the upcoming season. This comes despite a defensive regression for the veteran, who saw a decline in sprint speed and defensive metrics this year. Stearns acknowledged that Lindor has made more mistakes than usual but remains the cornerstone of the position.
