New York Mets announce departures from coaching staff

The New York Mets have announced that three members of their major league coaching staff will not return for the 2027 season following the conclusion of the 2026 campaign.

Departing staff members include Director of Major League Hitting Jeff Albert, Quality Assurance Coach Danny Barnes, and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney. While the organization noted that all three are welcome to return in different capacities, they are free to pursue opportunities with other organizations.

Albert, who led the team’s hitting approach during the most recent season, is expected to be succeeded by hitting coach Troy Snitker. Barnes, a long-term staff member who has served under multiple managers, was responsible for relaying analytical data to players. Mahoney joined the staff prior to the 2025 season after managing in the Appalachian League.

Other members of manager Andy Green’s staff, including bench coach Kai Correa and pitching coach Justin Willard, are expected to return. A club source indicated that no further coaching staff changes are anticipated at this time.
