New York Mets call up Ronny Mauricio following Jared Young injury

New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was hospitalized following a head injury during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. The incident occurred in the sixth inning when pitcher Nolan McLean’s right knee struck Young’s head while both players attempted to field a slow ground ball. Although medical scans ruled out serious physical trauma, Young is being evaluated for concussion symptoms.

As a result of Young’s injury, the Mets have called up infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse. Mauricio, a former top prospect who missed the 2024 season due to an ACL tear, joins the roster after a strong Triple-A campaign where he recorded 18 home runs and 12 stolen bases. Interim manager Andy Green indicated that Mauricio will receive playing time rather than serving solely as a bench player.
