New York Mets promote Mariano Duncan to major league coaching staff
The New York Mets have promoted Mariano Duncan to their major league coaching staff. Duncan, 63, is expected to assist the position player group in multiple capacities.
Duncan enters his ninth season with the Mets organization, having joined in 2019. His previous roles include coaching in Kingsport and serving as the bench coach for High-A Brooklyn in 2021. Most recently, he spent five seasons as the bench coach for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, where he helped the team win the Eastern League championship in 2025.
A former MLB infielder, Duncan played 12 seasons in the major leagues and won World Series titles with the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds. His coaching background includes stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers. His familiarity with the Mets’ player development system is expected to benefit several prospects, including catcher Francisco Alvarez, whom Duncan previously coached at the High-A and Double-A levels.
