New York Mets Release Veteran Christian Arroyo Amid Ongoing Rotation Concerns

The New York Mets released seven‑year MLB veteran infielder Christian Arroyo during their series against the Cleveland Guardians. Arroyo had signed a minor‑league contract on Jan. 6, was released on June 1 and re‑signed a day later. In Triple‑A this season he posted a .278/.331/.435 line with eight home runs and 45 RBIs over 66 games.

The Mets' 2026 campaign was hampered by injuries and a weakened starting rotation. General manager David Stearns traded away three of the six pitchers he entered the season with—David Peterson, Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes—and Kodai Senga moved out of the rotation. Remaining starters Nolan McLean and Sean Manaea are slated to anchor the 2027 rotation, while Christian Scott emerged as a key piece at the trade deadline. Prospects such as Jonah Tong, Jack Wenninger, Zac Thornton, Jonathan Santucci and Tylor Megill are either still developing or sidelined, leaving the Mets with limited depth heading into the offseason.
