New York Mets roster uncertainty regarding Bo Bichette and Mark Vientos

The New York Mets face significant roster uncertainty heading into the 2027 season involving key players Bo Bichette and Mark Vientos.

Bo Bichette’s contract includes opt-out clauses this offseason and next, allowing him to enter free agency if he chooses. While some analysts have predicted he will leave the Mets to be replaced by Teruaki Sato, Bichette would be forfeiting approximately $79 million over two years by opting out. Given his recent performance, analysts suggest it may be more financially prudent for him to remain under contract.

Meanwhile, the future of Mark Vientos remains unclear following a decline in production. After a strong 2024 season, Vientos recorded a .652 OPS this year. Due to his diminishing returns and the influx of new prospects, the Mets may consider trading him. Potential destinations include the Seattle Mariners, who require offensive support, or the Miami Marlins.
