New York Mets target Tarik Skubal and Teruaki Sato in free agency

The New York Mets are reportedly focusing on roster improvements for the 2027 season, with significant interest in free agents Tarik Skubal and Teruaki Sato. Skubal, a pitcher who recently played for the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, is considered a premier talent who could anchor the Mets' rotation for several years.

In addition to pitching, the Mets are looking to address third base and first base. Japanese infielder Teruaki Sato, a recent Triple Crown winner in the JCL, has been linked to the team as a potential long-term replacement for Pete Alonso.

There is speculation that major signings could occur before a potential lockout on December 1, as teams may seek to finalize deals before a new collective bargaining agreement alters payroll rules. Agent Scott Boras has suggested that teams may prefer to sign players now to maintain greater financial flexibility.
