New York murder-suicide: Four children killed by mother and grandmother

Authorities in Mechanicsville, New York, have released details regarding a murder-suicide involving four children and two women. The victims included four children, aged 10, 11, 13, and a 10-year-old twin, along with their mother, Sarah Myers, 44, and grandmother, Amy Steadman, 64.

Toxicology reports indicate the children were drugged with sedatives and allergy medication mixed with kratom before their deaths. Investigations revealed that one child was also repeatedly stabbed. Evidence from text messages between Myers and Steadman suggests the killings were premeditated, including coordination to allow the children to speak with their father before the drugs were administered.

The tragedy follows a long-standing, bitter custody battle between Myers and her ex-husband, Brady Harmon, who resides in Utah. Harmon had not seen the children in person since 2019. On the day of the incident, Myers reportedly sent Harmon a message claiming the children had a stomach virus to mask the crime.
