New York NFL teams face penalty yardage losses and training camp challenges
New York-based NFL teams have faced significant yardage losses due to penalties over the last decade. An analysis shows the Buffalo Bills lost the most yardage among the region's three teams, totaling 6,097 yards on 735 penalties. The New York Jets followed with 5,769 yards lost on 654 penalties, while the New York Giants lost 4,703 yards on 526 penalties.
As training camps progress, the New York Giants are working to improve offensive cohesiveness. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy noted that the unit is experiencing the highs and lows typical of the process, specifically mentioning quarterback Jaxson Dart’s efforts to adapt to the offense. While the defense has shown strong performance, particularly against the run, the offense continues to work through developmental struggles.
Heading into the preseason, the Giants are managing several injuries, including slot cornerback Dru Phillips and center John Michael Schmitz. The team is also monitoring linebacker Brian Burns, who has been managing an ankle injury, as they prepare for their preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
