New York political tensions rise over antisemitism concerns

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced public criticism regarding rising antisemitism during a visit to a Judaica shop in Borough Park. While visiting Eichler’s, activist Stephanie Benshimol confronted the mayor, accusing him of ignoring anti-Jewish hate crimes and shaming him for visiting the neighborhood.

In a separate development, Republican New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman stated that if elected, he would use his authority to prevent Mayor Mamdani from making anti-Israel statements. Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, pledged to take decisive action against antisemitic comments and harassment, suggesting he would deploy state police or the National Guard to manage situations involving the intimidation of Jewish students or the blocking of synagogues.
