New York prosecutor alleges political targeting in Letitia James' office

Daniel Wiesenfeld, an Assistant Attorney General in the New York Attorney General’s Investor Protection Bureau, has accused his superiors of conducting politically motivated investigations. In an email sent to approximately 2,000 employees, Wiesenfeld alleged that Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe directed him to “find and pursue crimes” involving Donald Trump, Truth Social, and Hewlett Packard without credible evidence or justification.

Wiesenfeld claimed the office was targeting political enemies rather than focusing on legitimate criminal matters, such as nonprofit homeless shelter fraud or antisemitic crimes. The email was reportedly deleted from state servers shortly after it was distributed. Following his allegations, Wiesenfeld was placed on paid leave, while the office of Attorney General Letitia James has characterized the situation as a “personnel matter.”
