New York Rangers consider adding defenseman Scott Morrow and forward Mavrik Bourque

The Rangers are evaluating the 23‑year‑old defense prospect Scott Morrow, acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in the July 1 trade that also netted a 2026 second‑round pick. Morrow, praised for his size (6‑ft‑2, 210 lb), skating and puck‑moving ability, posted promising underlying numbers – a 50.4 expected‑goal share – and could earn a roster spot if the team trades right‑shooter Braden Schneider.

Off‑season, the team also has ample cap space and is looking beyond free agency. Front office scouts are monitoring Dallas Stars players, especially 24‑year‑old center Mavrik Bourque.
