New York Rangers Expand Shoulder Check Charity Game to Sacred Heart University

The New York Rangers will host the fourth annual Shoulder Check Showcase charity game this Thursday at the Martire Family Arena on the campus of Sacred Heart University in Hamden, Connecticut. The move from Stamford's Terry Connors Arena to the larger NCAA venue allows for a broadcast by NHL Network and increased capacity for fans and participants. Current and former Rangers—including Adam Fox, Chris Kreider, Matt Rempe, Dave Maloney and others—joined the event, with former player Brian Boyle serving as a commentator.

The game raises funds and awareness for teenage mental‑health issues under the nonprofit Shoulder Check, founded by Rob Thorsen after his son Hayden’s suicide in 2022. Thorsen said the program ran more than 125 initiatives last year, partnering with NHL teams and youth programs. “No disrespect to the town of Stamford… this is the next level,” said Maloney, highlighting the event’s growth. The initiative’s core message remains “Reach Out. Check In. Make Contact.”
