New York Rangers face roster and salary cap shifts

The New York Rangers are navigating roster changes and salary cap shifts ahead of the upcoming NHL season. Goaltender Dylan Garand, who impressed during his NHL debut with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage, was recently omitted from a top 25 NHL goalie prospects list for the 2026-27 season. His path to a backup role may be complicated by the team's acquisition of veteran Joonas Korpisalo.

Additionally, the rising NHL salary cap is increasing the perceived value of existing long-term contracts within the Rangers organization. Following the Colorado Avalanche's signing of defenseman Cale Makar to an extension exceeding $20 million per season, the contract held by Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has gained significant relative value. Fox recorded 53 points in 55 games last season, maintaining offensive production levels comparable to elite peers.
