New York Rangers GM Chris Drury outlines aggressive offseason overhaul

General manager Chris Drury said the Rangers are focused on improving daily rather than following a set timeline, announcing a series of trades and free‑agent signings aimed at immediate competitiveness. The team acquired forward Pavel Dorofeyev on a $77 million extension, defensemen Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson, and signed Oliver Bjorkstrand and Joe Veleno. In the process, three first‑round picks were traded away and the club committed roughly $68.5 million of cap space for each of the next three seasons.

Drury emphasized a “retooling” philosophy, noting that any first‑round pick acquired should be for players at the right age with favorable contracts. The Rangers also added top prospects such as Albert Smits, Liam Greentree and Cole Beaudoin to bolster their pipeline. With a strong defensive core anchored by Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin, the organization hopes the roster can contend for a Metropolitan Division playoff spot while continuing to develop young talent.
