New York Rangers defeat Utah Mammoth amid Shesterkin honors and Veleno injury
The New York Rangers secured a 4-2 victory against the Utah Mammoth at Madison Square Garden, extending their winning streak to three games. The win was highlighted by goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who was named the NHL's first star of the week after recording 71 saves and two points in the opening week, including becoming the first Rangers goalie in history to score a goal.
Despite the victory, the Rangers suffered a lineup setback when center Joe Veleno sustained a lower-body injury during the first period. Veleno was helped off the ice after a collision with Utah’s Clayton Keller and did not return to the game.
The Rangers now prepare for a rivalry matchup against the New York Islanders. This upcoming game follows a period of significant roster changes, including the offseason trade of Vincent Trocheck to Utah and the acquisition of defenseman Sean Durzi.
