New York Rangers overhaul roster in 2024 offseason

The New York Rangers finished last in the Metropolitan division and traded star forward Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings. In response, general manager Chris Drury reshaped the roster, adding veteran forwards Pavel Dorofeyev on a seven‑year, $77 million deal, wingers Oliver Bjorkstrand and Joe Veleno, defensemen Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson, and backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. The team also drafted defenseman Alberts Smits fifth overall, who quickly entered the NHL’s top‑100 prospect rankings, landing at No. 9 according to The Athletic. Prospect center Cole Beaudoin, acquired in the Vincent Trocheck trade, narrowly missed the top‑100 list, while forward Malcolm Spence and winger Malcolm Spence were among other notable young players added to the organization.

These moves signal a retooling phase aimed at improving depth and developing younger talent as the Rangers target a return to playoff contention.
