Dylan Garand records first career NHL shutout in Rangers win
New York Rangers goaltender Dylan Garand recorded his first career NHL shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. Garand made between 22 and 23 saves to secure the win, marking the first shutout by a Canadian goaltender this season.
The Rangers' victory was fueled by a first-period power-play goal from defenseman Sean Durzi, assisted by Gabriel Perreault, and an empty-net goal by Eeli Tolvanen. The win comes during a demanding stretch for New York, who are playing their third game in four nights.
Garand’s performance follows a turbulent week in which he was placed on waivers and assigned to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack before being recalled to New York. His promotion to the active roster occurred after the Rangers placed Joonas Korpisalo on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury.
In Detroit, the Red Wings faced a difficult home opener marked by organizational tension. Former captain Dylan Larkin, who has requested a trade and is currently on injured reserve, was booed by fans during pregame introductions. The game also saw physical play between Marco Kasper and Sean Durzi in the second period.
