New York recreational spaces receive upgrades in Yonkers and Brooklyn

Major renovations are underway for public recreational spaces in Yonkers and Brooklyn. In Yonkers, Mayor Mike Spano announced improvements to Georgia Avenue, Grant, Trenchard, and Pelton parks. These projects, which include new playgrounds, safety surfacing, landscaping, and basketball courts, aim to modernize facilities that have not seen major renovations in two to three decades. Construction is already in progress at three of the four sites.

In Brooklyn, the Fish Playground has completed renovations on three basketball courts. This project was a collaborative effort involving New York City, the New York Liberty, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation’s Social Justice Fund. The broader $2.89 million investment covers 13 courts across five locations, including Jackie Robinson Playground, Breukelen Ballfields, Fox Playground, and Sunset Park. Officials stated these sites were selected to improve recreation access in neighborhoods facing acute gun violence.
