Emil Forsberg's future at New York Red Bulls remains undecided
New York Red Bulls head of sport Julian de Guzman has addressed the uncertain future of midfielder Emil Forsberg. While Forsberg’s current three-year contract includes a club option for the 2027 season, de Guzman stated that the front office has not yet entered into “full-on initial discussions” regarding the player's future beyond the current season.
De Guzman noted that discussions have remained light, focusing primarily on Forsberg’s performance and the team's overall direction. He described the 34-year-old as “incredible” and a player in whom the club sees “so much value.” The club expects to have more clarity on the situation as they approach the fall.
Forsberg, a veteran with significant European experience, recently indicated he has retired from international soccer. His role remains vital to the Red Bulls as they navigate the 2026 campaign and manage roster complexities such as the MLS salary cap.
