New York sanitation workers recover two valuable family rings from trash

Two valuable family rings were recovered from approximately 9 tons of trash in New York City after being accidentally discarded. A resident of Brooklyn contacted the New York City Department of Sanitation after realizing the rings had been thrown away.

Sanitation workers identified the specific garbage truck used on the collection route and emptied the 9-ton load to begin a search. The rings, one a platinum diamond ring passed down through four generations and the other a gold and diamond ring, were located within 10 minutes of the search starting.

The combined market value of the rings is estimated to be between $40,000 and $50,000, though the family noted their sentimental value far exceeds their monetary worth.
