New York State allocates millions for Brooklyn cultural and historic sites
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced significant state funding for several Brooklyn-based institutions and historic sites. A total of $14 million has been designated for the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network (HITN), the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).
HITN will receive $5 million to expand its production facilities at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, including a new 17,000-square-foot rooftop production facility and event space. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has been allocated $7 million to fund its Earth Science Garden project and address infrastructure needs. BAM will receive $2 million for various projects.
Additionally, $10 million has been announced for the restoration and reactivation of historic Hangars 3 and 4 at Floyd Bennett Field. In partnership with the National Park Service at Gateway National Recreation Area, this investment aims to transform the iconic aviation buildings into public spaces for education, environmental research, and community use.
