New York State launches AI Jobs Institute to train 40,000 residents

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the establishment of the AI Jobs Institute in Long Island City, Queens. The initiative aims to train up to 40,000 New Yorkers in artificial intelligence skills by 2032 to help them transition into high-paying roles within the evolving technology sector.

Operated by the nonprofit organization Pursuit, the institute will receive $3.06 million from Empire State Development, contributing to a total public investment of $10 million. The center is expected to begin full occupancy at The JACX building by mid-2027. The program focuses on four primary areas: workforce training for AI-enabled career pathways, innovation through pilot projects for small businesses, policy and research to guide workforce strategies, and community-employer connectivity.

In addition to training, the institute will host the Global Tech and Innovation Center to support under-resourced entrepreneurs with funding and international market opportunities. The project involves partnerships with organizations including Google.org, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
