New York State Police investigate death of man in custody
New York State Police are investigating the death of a 36-year-old man following his arrest at a Super 8 Motel in the town of Montgomery.
Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance at the motel on Montgomery Road around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers encountered the man in an “agitated state” and took him into custody. Although he was initially conscious, his condition deteriorated, prompting a request for emergency medical services.
The man was transported by ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center, where he suffered cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation into the circumstances of the death. The New York State Attorney General’s Office has also been notified. A cause of death has not yet been released.
