New York state worker removes GOP campaign sign
A New York State Department of Transportation employee was filmed removing a campaign sign for Republican congressional candidate Mike LiPetri in Oyster Bay, Long Island. The video sparked criticism from LiPetri and conservative groups, who suggested the removal targeted Republican materials.
However, state officials stated the removal was lawful. A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation, Stephen Canzoneri, said the agency is authorized to remove signs placed within its right of way and expressed confidence that the sign was located on state-owned property along Jericho Turnpike. The department noted that removed signs are typically stored for 30 days to allow owners to reclaim them.
