New York Thruway crash kills Rochester woman

A fatal collision occurred on the westbound New York State Thruway in the town of Newstead early Friday morning. A 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer struck a disabled 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck that was stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 90.

New York State Police identified the driver of the pickup as 61-year-old Olive H. Wesley of Rochester, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 62-year-old Eric A. Trone of Rochester, was transported to Erie County Medical Center in serious condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 30-year-old Amritpal Singh of Belleville, Ontario, was uninjured. Following standardized field sobriety tests, police reported no signs of impairment for Singh. No criminal charges have been announced, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
