New York Times manager shot dead in California

Jonathan McKinsey, a 40-year-old Director of Engineering for The New York Times' games division, was shot and killed in a parking lot at a sports complex in Dublin, California, on September 26.

Authorities from the Dublin Police Service have arrested McKinsey’s 77-year-old parents-in-law, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, on suspicion of murder. Following witness statements, the couple was booked into the Santa Rita Jail. Investigators have not yet established a motive for the shooting.

McKinsey, a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley, was reportedly involved in an ongoing custody dispute with his wife, Candice Jang. A family law status conference regarding the dispute had been scheduled for the Friday following the incident.
