New York Times ranks best television series since 2000

The New York Times has released a ranking of the best television series released since January 1, 2000, based on the votes of more than 500 industry insiders, including stars, showrunners, producers, and executives.

“Breaking Bad” (2008–2013) was named the top series. Critic James Poniewozik noted that the show evolved beyond its premise into a significant American story regarding greed and hubris. Following it in the rankings are “The Wire” (2002–2008) in second place and “Mad Men” (2007–2015) in third.

Other notable entries in the top five include the HBO drama “Succession” (2018–2023) at fourth place and “Fleabag” (2016–2019) at fifth. The fantasy epic “Game of Thrones” also featured prominently in the results.
