New York Times ranks the 100 best books of the 21st century

The New York Times Book Review has released a ranking of the 100 best books of the 21st century, identifying works as modern classics. The list was compiled by surveying 503 individuals from the literary community, including authors, poets, and critics, who were asked to name the most significant books published since 2000.

Elena Ferrante’s ‘My Brilliant Friend’ is ranked as the best book of the century so far. While the list serves as a curated guide to contemporary literature, it has faced criticism for being US-centric and for favoring established, well-known titles over literary outsiders, as sales figures were not a factor in the selection process.
