New York Yankees await return of Clarke Schmidt and Ryan Weathers

The New York Yankees are preparing for the potential return of two key pitchers to their roster as the postseason approaches. Clarke Schmidt is scheduled for a fifth and potentially final rehab appearance this Saturday following his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Manager Aaron Boone indicated that Schmidt could join the team during their upcoming road trip if the rehab outing is successful.

Ryan Weathers is also progressing through a throwing program after being sidelined by a left forearm flexor strain. Weathers is working toward a bullpen session and expressed a desire to pitch in a competitive game before the playoffs begin to regain his rhythm.

The imminent returns of Schmidt and Weathers may impact the current roster depth. The team may need to create bullpen spots, which could involve demoting players like Bradley Hanner or reassessing the role of Luis Gil, who has recently been transitioning into a relief role in the minor leagues.
