New York Yankees evaluate catcher options for upcoming season

The New York Yankees are considering various strategies to bolster their catching depth. One potential avenue involves pursuing a significant upgrade, such as Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras. Contreras offers a higher offensive floor compared to current Yankees catcher Austin Wells, having finished the regular season with a .270 batting average and 18 home runs.

Another possibility involves a reunion with former Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, who is currently playing for the Milwaukee Brewers. Sanchez, a two-time All-Star during his tenure in New York, recently expressed openness to future opportunities, stating, “I’m a free man. Life gives you a lot of turns; you never know.”

While Contreras would represent a major shift in the everyday lineup and workload, Sanchez offers a familiar option for the Bronx-based team as they look to address needs behind the plate.
